Anyone else got an (older) tomboy dd? Dd1 (aged 11) is currently playing soldiers ...

She has a set of toy soldiers and she is currently making a ruined barn out of a cardboard box so they can have a war

she goes to Scouts, never wears skirts or dresses and has short hair.

I love the way she is, and she is very comfortable in her skin, but I don't know any other girls like her!

I have two non girly girls.
One of them used to have short hair but she couldnt take the boy comments. She looked lovely too
How does she find other girls?

Her two best friends are (girly) girls - very into their make-up and clothes and pink stuff. But I think they are friends because they share the same sense of humour as much as anything else.

She too has succumbed on the hair front and now tells me she wants to grow it long - it really suits her short too! But she gets fed up of being called Harry Potter (she wears glasses too).

miao ds just did a week at a summer football school and there were 2 or 3 gorgeous girls (one might have been an exquisite boy with long hair - not sure!) who were totally football mad and told my ds (7) that they were boys! My ds would not hear other than that and worshipped them. I thought they seemed very self assured young things (could have been anything between 8 - 11).

I was a total Tomboy in reaction to my s's hysterical femininity!

um.. my DS (3) has spent most of the afternoon dressing up teddy and putting him to bed, and trying on my shoes.

the other day i answered the front door and DS came up to say hello to the gas man wearing my pink bra !

works both ways i guess!!!

LOL mankymummy! My friend's ds (8) is very very similar but now he's older and says to his mother: " You are NOT thinking of going OUT in THAT are you???"

lol - it's just in my experience they grow out of it by the time they hit puberty - not my dd!

dd2 is very girly by contrast, quite sweet seeing them together

My DD1 was never a girly-girl.She did start to be more interested in clothes at about 14. Now 22 she has a very individual style and is very into dressing up and all things fairy (making up for lost time?)

My non girlys like camping and treasure hunts and stuff like that. Getting dirty and having fun, not standing on the side lines complaining about the wrong footwear

DD is neither, really. She's not uber-girly, is very active, likes mess and seems to get a kick out of getting dirty (still). She has never been much into dollies or traditional girls' toys.
On the other hand, she does Rhythmic Gymnastics, the girliest sport going!
