My children have been taking swimming lessons in the Walnuts in Orpington since they were babies. The 6-year-old can now swim lengths in the big pool and the 4-year-old can swim about 2m. They both had (or have) Lizzy as their teacher in the baby and pre-school years - she is very passionate about swimming.

Thanks Trigirl! For the baby swimming lessons do they go under water? Or is it a bit of splashing around?

We go to a private baby swimming at Keston on the border of Bromley. It is a nice warm private pool so very suitable for young ones and I think our teacher is great. You can contact Anna on 01883742191 Flippers swimming academy Ltd. 4-7 babies and parents in a class, each class 30 minutes.
She teaches water confidence and self rescue type exercises from early on so hopefully they have a chance of turning round and holding onto the side if they fall into water etc. They do a mixture of swimming on top and under the water. They build on that into trying out the strokes when they are older. My nearly 4 year old has her 10m badge and my 2.5yr old hopefully will get her 5m badge soon.

Hey beautifulgirls, can you check that number as it doesn't work. Am really interested in these lessons as my kiddies go to west wickham at the moment but keston would be better. Thanks!!

Does anyone know of any swimming lessons on a Saturday or Sunday?

Hi Orpington Ojays swimming club which is based at the Walnuts Leisure centre runs tadpole classes for slightly older children, and the leisure centre also run classes. My daughter learnt to swim there and loves swimming. Orpington Ojays and the leisure centre are handy for mums living in Petts Wood, Green Street Green and Bromley

I also recommend Flippers Swim Academy between keston and bromley common. The teacher Anna is fantastic and really experienced. Also because its a private pool is nice and clean, warm and secure. The little boy I looked after loved going!

Does anyone know of a good place to go swimming with a 6 month old baby in Bromley area??We only looking for a place that does classes on Saturdays.

It is a little far but I took my daughter to the pool in Sevenoaks it is lovelyand shallow and warm! Darrick Wood Pool is also popular and has free parking and baby changing.

There is also a Learn to swim school at Warren Road but this is for children from 4 years old. It is run by Orpington Ojays Swimming Club coaches who have experience working with young children.
