Just leave him. Say 'We are here waiting for you when you want to come down'. He'll come down. Don't mention it to him again. Aren't they funny when they get stroppy about silly things?

leave him. just ignore and when he starts to calm down a little, go and give him a hug, take his hand and offer to do something fun or nice to distract him.

I'd see if he wants a drink or something to eat. Hunger and thirst big triggers for hideous behaviour in my house.

Clearly your children don't have a meltdown when hungry/thirsty Moondog. My son does. And as soon as he eats, it's over. It's a blood sugar thing.

sometimes offering food (ie changing the subject) is a way of offering the more stubborn of children a way of backing down without them losing face iykwim
