16 month old - not walking or standing alone - time to see HV/GP or wait til 18 mths?

My 16 month old has only recently started cruising. She was late to pull up to stand and walking seems a long way off

I have looked at the other delayed walking threads but wondered when you should see the HV or GP
Is it worth seeing someone now or will they just tell me to wait a few more months?

My DD walked at 21months (knee walked for months before that). She crawled at 13 months, and didn't pull up until about 16m-17m I think. I did see the GP but only because I was concerned that her feet were not growing and that she had a funny stance. She was referred to the foot clinic and is now discharged. I don't think it was related to the late walking. She's been delayed in other gross motor skills, but is otherwise fine.

I would wait a little while then maybe give HV a call at 18m. If he/she is meeting other milestones I wouldn't worry.

I saw GP when she was 19m, btw.

Thanks

I wouldn't worry. My DD is 15 months and several of her contemporaries aren't even crawling. I also know a few older children 18/19/20 months who are still only just crawling.

I am in the same boat. My DS is almost 16 months and only started pulling up a few weeks ago. No cruising yet, or standing alone, so walking seems way off. I have seen GP and health visitor who said probably nothing to worry about but worth monitoring and having monthly chats with them.

So they probably will tell you to wait a few months but I found it quite reassuring to have their views.

I think that lack of weight-bearing is more of an issue than late walking iirc, but i'm sure someone more knowledgable will be able to confirm (or refute) that.

Thanks I might try giving my HV a call

If your 16 month old can already pull to stand and cruise, it is highly unlikely that there is anything wrong with her. I would wait until she's 18 months, personally, unless there are other aspects of her development that concern you. No harm in mentioning it to the HV, of course, but I doubt she'd be concerned about it - plenty of children walk far later than 16 months (including both of mine, only one of whom has a problem with his gross motor skills).

If this is any consolation to you I have 5DC and the earliest walker was 16 months and the latest 20 months - all happy, sporty kids now

My DD just was late pulling herself up to stand (11.5 months) and the midwife kept implying that there was something wrong with her - eventually she was referred to an orthopeadic pediatrician and turns out she's double jointed and apparently babies who are tend to stand and walk a bit later. She also said not to worry about her not walking until she's at least 18 months.

Thank u all for your msgs. My girl kneewalked for months. She turned 21 months yesterday, She has been walking for a little over a week. She walks like Frankenstein without the arms most of the time. But has moments when her legs are closer together. I was concerned until I read some of the other messages. Thanks so much for sharing. I had scheduled and appt with a Children's Podiatrist for next week, when she was still knee walking. I think I'm still going to take her and let them give her a look over. Will keep u posted. Thanks again

I have 4DC, dd1 walked at 13mths, ds1 12mths, ds2 19mths and dd2 22mths. I saw Dr for ds2/dd2 and they said they wouldn't be overly concerned before 2yo. Turns out, ds2 has issues (hypermobile joints/weak core) and dd2 is just going at her own pace! I think your lo sounds fine, but we are Mum's, worrying is our job :)

My dd is 18 months old, I took her to see the doctor who has refered us to see pedatrician, got home and she took her first steps :)

She will take a few steps here and there but still crawls to go where she wants :)
