Hi, I just wondered what you think of these words to put in a card from my daughter to her teacher.
She is moving up a class next term and will be leaving her first nursery class. The teacher is absoluitly fantastic and my daughter really loves her so it will be very . I have made a card with a photo of my daughter cuddeling her teacher, decorated with flowers. What do you think of these words for inside?

Dear Mrs ...
Thank you so much for giving me such a wonderful start to my school life. You've held my hand, dried my tears and made my very first memories of school ones of happiness and laughter.
I am really going to miss you but will always remember the fun we've had in little ladies.
I am very privileged to have had you as my teacher and I hope I'll go on to make you proud.
With lots of love and thanks from .....

Please be honest if you don't like it or would change it a bit. Also feel free to correct spellings. Thanks.

Imo, a little too effusive and potentially embarrassing. She teaches a class of 30 and unless your child is Shirley Temple-Einstein, she'll struggle to remember her by the end of the summer.

The irony is, I did write a quick note to my DD's teacher, but it was a tenth as long.

"M&*^%$ has loved being in your class, and I know having such a great teacher helped her to settle in so quickly and happily".

I guess we all have our own style. ANd you know your child's teacher better than I do. My child's teacher is very practical, loves horses, ... she would have retched if I'd overdone it!

I think it's got a lovely scentiment behind it. I would personally make it a bit less flowery and write something like:

Mrs ***

Thank you so much for being such a wonderful teacher to . We are very grateful for giving her such a positive start to her school life.

However, I'm a very unflowery, gushy sort of person but it depends on the personality of the teacher.

All I can say if I received this from one of my pupils then I'd feel very happy and deffinitely a little tearful so I'd leave it alone!

LynetteScavo · 08/07/2008 19:50

I'm so intrigued by this school. I would love a link.

SorenLorensen · 08/07/2008 19:53

Ds2 has just written his - it says "Tank you for teching me." He was a pink piglet in reception - doesn't seem to have left any lasting scars.

There are not 30 in my dayghters class, there are 6. Thats why we chose it. It is like a family it's just lovely. I went there and was very happy.
Thank you Turniphead1, that is so sweet.

Oh yes, and it is the same school that dress up for their prize giving day. I suppose thats wrong too is it Lynettescavo ?. She won a prize for her musical appreciation and her manners if you're interested. [very proud mummy]

Did she wear the shoes ? It seems a bit odd to dish out many prizes among 6 3yr olds though or are they throughout the Early Years bit ? Believe me you'll have to repay the investmenbt longer term !

mummyloveslucy · 08/07/2008 21:37

Yes Lizs she did wear the shoes. She looked gorgeous. The prize giving was for Lucys class, nursery and transition so there were a fair few children there.
Everyone gets a prize for somthing. They don't leave anyone out.

I'm sure it is fun to get all doled up and receive a certificate but these events are really more for the parents than the kids.

greenelizabeth · 08/07/2008 21:46

Turnip head, small babies is just slang though. The proper term is Junior Infants. Big babies (!!!) is actually senior infants.

mummyloveslucy · 08/07/2008 21:51

Oh yes, I agree Lizs. It was a very proud moment for me but Lucy didn't really have a clue what was going on. She seemed a bit disapointed as she thought she was going to a party. She thought she'd got all dressed up for nothing.

Turniphead1- All the best for your daughter starting school in sept, I'm sure she'll be fine. She sounds a little charactor.

I have now re written my card. I've written it from us, and have left out the soppie bits. I think it still sounds nice but not soppy. I'm pleased with it now.

Mummyloveslucy. Ignore everyone, I think it sounded lovely. If I was her teacher I would love to receive it. (Would probably cry too)

Mummyloveslucy you're so sweet! You've taken criticism with more grace than i've ever seen I think! You wouldn't be making an arse of yourself if you gushed, don't let the vipers shake the sop out!

mummyloveslucy · 08/07/2008 22:22

Thanks. I know that I'd be over the moon to recieve it, but then I would be wouldn't I ?
