nail biting

my dd (5) has been biting her nails for the last couple of months. she's constantly got her fingers in her mouth, even when she's talking and bites the skin around the nails as well. It makes her look like a nervous wreck! no matter how much i try to encourage her to stop nothings working. Should i use stop and grow or would that be mean?? any suggestions please???

I think this is just something they have to grow out of - dd bites her nails and I've told her if she grows them to a nice length she can get some sparkly nailpolish to wear on them. It comes and goes her biting though. She's 6. They aren't bad at the moment

My mum bit her nails til she was in he 30s and I'm afraid I did too. I don't know what made me stop but I have lovely nails now, though I say so myself(!) and the thought of biting them now makes me feel yuk.

Unfortunately my dd, now nearly 9, has always bitten hers. I reckon it must be genetic or a strange coincidence.

I've tried everything with her - stop and grow, but it doesn't stop them picking them, bribery of nail polish and rings etc., but shesays she just can't help it. I know how she feels after doing it myself but I've just resigned myself to the fact that she will eventually grow out of it I like I did, though I hope it won't take as long!

I'll wait to see if anyone else has any miracle cures.
