consider this broadly on track?
I’m not entirely sure what I seek to gain from this post - reassurance maybe? I’d be interested to hear from other mums about how they would view my DS’s development at 19 months and whether I need to keep panicking / did anyone have a similar experience and it turned out ok.
He has had some motor delay and was diagnosed with low muscle tone and some hypermobility around 12 months by a paed.
His gross motor development has been noticeably behind his other areas, although he has recently made a heap of progress.
He has had a normal CK, thyroid and other routine bloods, and genetic testing so far (microarray, Fragile X, PWS, SMA, myotonic dystrophy) has been negative. His paediatrician and physio are happy with his progress and don’t seem to be hugely concerned.
Development has roughly been:
- Sat independently around 11/12 months.
- 13m - Army crawled for quite a while, lying to sit, all fours to sit emerged
- 15/16m - Pull to stand and standing play
- 17m - hands and knees crawling
- 18m - cruising and climbing
His fine motor/social/language development seems much more typical and happened roughly on time
- Points at pictures in books.
- Shows things to us/waves/claps/high fives/ gimme that
- Raises his arms to be picked up.
- Puts his hands on his head during Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes.
- Claps along to songs at right moment
- Has good eye contact and responds to name
- Points to request, has started pointing at objects and naming (ie the dog)
- 10-15 words/approximations - some are clearer than others, but he uses them meaningfully.
The main thing that stands out is therefore his gross motor development
If you have/had a toddler with lower tone/ hypermobility or delayed gross motor skills, would you consider this pattern fairly reassuring given the progress he has made? Or should I be pushing for further reviews.
There’s a bit of hypermobility in the family but none walked as late as 19m+. I myself am said to be particularly hypermobile and ‘low toned’
I’m interested in hearing from people whose DCs were late walkers/late crawlers but otherwise developed normally.
Yours,
