Is it normal for a four week old to mostly feed and sleep

Hi All,

I have my first baby she was breech and born by caesarean at 38 weeks +5 days.

My daughter will be 4 weeks tomorrow. Currently she really just feeds, sleeps and fills her nappy. She looks at black & white books but when I try to read stories to her she either cries or falls asleep. The other mums in my mums group are sharing pictures of their babies playing, interacting etc.

Her uncle has Asperger's and I'm battling postnatal depression so I know I may be being a bit hypervigilant, borderline paranoid when it comes to her development. I just want to give her the best start in life.

Is feeding & sleeping perfectly healthy development or is she behind? and if she is behind how can I encourage her catching up?

I have two and my second slept about 20 hours a day at that age :) She is a bright and bubbly two year old now. Please look after yourself and try not to worry or compare. Keep responding to her needs and things can change very quickly - she'll have plenty of time to play and read books xxx

Completely normal. Don’t stress at all. I don’t think I even bothered with toys or books for the first couple of months. Do get outside though during the day jf you can, it’s good for them to have a change of environment
