Nine-month-old not responding to her name, should I be concerned?

hello, looking for a bit of advice or anyone experiencing/experienced similar. I’m so frightened my daughter might have autism. she is 9 months old today, she crawls, sits, stands against things and claps her hands. she will do the odd ‘dadadadada’. my biggest concern is her not responding to her name, I can be sat right in front of her with no distractions and she simply just won’t take me on when I’m saying it. if I say ‘peeks’ to initiate peekaboo she will look at me, or if I make a funny noise or clap. she laughs at funny faces and smiles, she raises her arms to be picked up, just won’t respond to name, I also think she stims when she is excited, her mouth widens and she will twirl her wrists - anyone go through the same?

Yes I would be concerned but even as a Mum to autistic kids that wouldn’t be my first thought. Approx 1 in 57 children are autistic but around 4 out of 5 will suffer from glue ear - which normally clears up on it’s own.

I would see the GP and ask for a referral to audiology.

thanks, im just concerned its not her ears as she will look up to ‘peeka’ and I can be right close to her face and she will ignore so even if she didn’t hear me you would think she would look my way if im there? 😞 it’s breaking my heart

Honestly, IF your child is austistic then yes it’s a harder life, but it’s not the end of the world. I’m autistic, I have friends, a lovely husband, used to be successful in a professional job - now a SAHM.

Parenting will be full of difficulties and it’s important to be aware of challenges your children may face but you’re grieving for something that there is very little evidence of at the moment.

Peeka is made of high pitched sounds. For children with glue ear it’s not always about the volume of sounds but the pitch.

Everyone stims, especially children it’s more common in ND children.
