8 year old teenager!

I feel like my lovely 8 year old is turning into and 8 year old teenager. I have to ask him to do things multiple times , he grunts and groans. I assume it's a normal development stage , tired from going back to school etc but any solidarity , advice appreciated.

What happens if he grunts and moans @lancslass17?

I tell him to stop and if he doesn't listen threaten to turn netflix off , tell his teacher he's not doing his homework depends on the situation.

And do you carry through of he still doesn’t behave?

Keep at him until he follows through! I have the same with my 10 year old and I used to get annoyed with her and threaten consequences and now I just calmly repeat the instructions, she gets sick of hearing it and does as I ask, these days it doesn’t seem to take as many times either because she knows I won’t give up

If you want, you can also try different approaches. For example, connect the action you want to see with something he really wants as a reward.
He needs to put in some effort, and you need to see that the behaviour has actually changed. For example, if he does his homework properly and puts in real effort for 5 days, he could get some extra Netflix time.
I would introduce only one change at a time. Once that behaviour has improved and become more consistent, you can move on to the next one.
