2.4yr old quite possesive over his toys, when does it get easier???

Have tried distraction which works and taking toy away which works. I say to ds share with the other child and he will for a few seconds then he'll take toy back. i feel that sometimes i should be stepping in more when i'm with friends and ds won't share his toy with their child but at the same time i feel he's still to young to grasp the concept. What do you think?

will get it in a few months imo so long as you keep doing what you are doing. At some time in the latter half of the third year they get the fact that sometimes they have to do what they don't want. Makes life much much easier

If he is verbal, my friend and I find getting the kids to ask themselves for the toy works eg 'friend, can i have a turn please?' then 'thank you'. and short turns each - with lots of praise for being lovely and sharing. Also, we don't always take things off the kids (especially things we know are prized - friend's baby buggy for example) but do actively encourage sharing... Can understand kids getting a bit miffed at having to share everything I have tried to get dd to enjoy watching other children play, eg 'look, what is she doing with dolly? ahhh'. Maybe this is just rubbing her nose in it but it seems to work mostly...

So far, it does seem to go in phases too - dd (just over 2) went a bit possessive-loony DAT'S MINE a week or so ago but is now v sweet again!

I'd say just keep doing what you are doing...

thank u good idea to encourage ds to ask for toy, feel so silly not thinking of that

will be looking forward to a few months time when dc has grasped all this!
