Baby side glancing randomly

In the past 2 weeks, my 11 month year old son has started randomly and (I think) quite frequently throughout the day, started looking out of the side of his eyes, only to the right hand side and he kind of pulls a face like he’s eaten something sour at the same time. He does flap his hands and do other ‘stimming’ type movements but I otherwise wouldn’t have had any autism concerns although I have read this can be an early sign. The gp didn’t seem concerned saying he’s just developing but I have been referred to an ophthalmologist. Has anybody else’s baby/child done this and know what it could be/what else can I do? If I stand in his way or call him, he usually looks at me. Sometimes he can stare for a few seconds, other times just very quickly. I’m so worried.
