Is the 2 year health visitor check carried out at nursery?

I’m just wondering how it works, mostly as I’m trying to work out how much time I’ll need off work!

I know nursery has to do a progress check around 2 years old, and there is a HV check too. Does the HV go to the nursery to see the child / do the meeting jointly? Or are they separate?

No they're two seperate things. Our HV check was done at home, but in some areas you're invited to the local family hub or equivalent.

Ours was a while ago but was done at the local clinic which luckily for me is about a 10 minute walk.

The HV should ask you to complete the 2 year Ages & Stages before the assessment and it might be worth doing this simple progress checker from Speech & Language UK as well
