DS refusing water

DS is 2 and a half and is refusing water and will only drink a little milk. We’re on our third heatwave so I’ve been giving him fruit shoot hydro and very weak Robinson squash. I’m worried I’m doing the wrong thing for his health, but at the same time I need him to stay hydrated during this heat.
for context, he is non verbal and doesn’t understand reasoning so I can explain the importance of water but it just goes straight over his head. I’ve tried giving him water in different cups but he will only drink from his miracle 360 cup unless it’s milk in which case it has to be his TumTum straw cup. I’m sending him into nursery with juicy water (innocent) so I know he is drinking when I’m not around as he refuses water and snacks whilst he’s there.
am I doing the right thing?

Yes this is the right thing in a heatwave. Also Ice lollies are good for kids not wanting to drink. you want about 6 wet nappies every 24 hours, are you getting that?

ExplodingSmittens · Today 07:08

You could also try some high water foods like strawberries, melon, watermelon, jelly or broccoli.

Yes he’s having enough wet nappies with what he’s drinking thankfully @Corgicorky

@ExplodingSmittens Unfortunately he is also very difficult with food at the moment. He used to love food but now he eats about three things and the only fruit he will eat is mango or strawberries but not both at the same time 😭 he’s waiting for an autism assessment and I’m hoping with that will come a nutritionist. It’s so difficult!

I was going to suggest that he may have ASD. If he’s being like this over food and drink I’d also ask if they can assess him for ARFID. My DC2 went from being a brilliant eater at first to hardly eating anything after 12 months.

@ExplodingSmittens Yeah I definitely will, when we get our assessment date through I’ll mention that to them. Our HV is aware but we said we’d give him a little bit of time as it could be a phase. But honestly I feel like it’s more to do with texture. He flat out refuses any wet food now and has done for a while. Thank you for your advice I really appreciate it x

Wonder if we have the same HV? Ours thought that DC2 not talking until they were 3 was also normal…
