I was just on here for some reassurance! My twins are almost 15 months old DD is babbling and very close to her meaningful words! But my DS still cannot babble not matter how hard I try! he had just started walking and is all about getting around! he makes good eye contact and answers to his name, claps, waves. He doesn’t point but we’ve never really practiced pointing so I’m not too worried about that one l, he keeps making the sound mmmm, hhhhh, ttttt & bbbb so I do think he’s getting there but I’m so just so stressed when I read about it the first thing you see is autism! We had an appointment with the health visitor last week and she isn’t worried and she’s happy to allow him to catch up. But I cannot help but worry!debelop

I can understand you being a little worried if DD is babbling but he’s not.

Did the HV ask you to fill in the 16 month Ages & Stages? If not, how does he score?

I think the very least that you should have expected her to refer him for a hearing test, just to rule out things like glue ear and a follow up appointment with him again in a couple of months.

Thank you for responding! HV does the scoring when she’s here so she didn’t really say apart from that he’s excelling in every area apart from babbling/talking. When he was new born he had to have a hearing test as he failed two in the hospital and the went to a specialist and pasted with flying colours. He knows what we’re saying like you can see him taking everything in and if you say mama he will say mmmm this whole being a mom is stressful to say the least! 🙈

Hearing can be so odd. Sometimes they can appear to hear perfectly well but can miss other sounds at different frequencies.

Did she arrange a follow up appointment? If not, I woukd email her and ask for a referral for a hearing test and a follow up appointment with DS in a couple of months.

If it does get to the stage where DS needs SaLT it will be useful if he’s had a recent hearing test so best to get on that waiting list now rather than leave it Smile
