Anxiety or autism 11 month old

Hi all, i am a ftm of a beautiful 11 month old. I do have bad anxiety and my brother is autistic with severe learning difficulties and extremely violent so this is and has always been a real concern of mine. I am worried my son is autistic for a few reasons:

  • he can only army crawl at 11 months. A physio checked him over and said they are happy with him and that him being sick after nursery for 6 weeks could have kept him back.
  • he cannot pull to stand at 11 months
  • he doesnt seem to "talk back" to us or imitate us making faces
  • he at times can have fleeting eye contact, especially after naps
  • he sometimes won't respond to his name at all
  • he doesnt understand commands (I think he does understand no and come here)

He can:

  • make good eye contact and is normally very smiley
  • met all other milestones on time lime sitting
  • waves and claps
  • bear weight on his legs
  • is fine being passed to strangers / is generally pretty chill but cries at the right time.

Does he sound like a neurotypical 11 month old? I feel like this is ruining my time with him and it doesn't help seeing friends younger children reach milestones he hasnt yet 😔

Have you got his 12 month check booked in yet with your HV @Suspiciouspenguin? Smile

Does he never respond to his name, or sometimes he wont respond to his name and some of the time he will? Because they are two different things.

I think he sounds fine, you should speak to your health visitor who will hopefully put your mind at rest.

Honestly, reading your post, I think your anxiety may be making you focus on every little thing your son isn't doing whilst overlooking all the things he is doing. He sounds like a happy, engaged little boy, and you've already had reassurance from a physio. I know it's easier said than done but try not to compare him to other babies. They all develop at their own pace, and 11 months is still incredibly young.

Sounds completely normal to me. I think your anxiety is making you look for things that aren't there
