Ds goes to a language therapy group which he really likes, but what irks me slightly is that they are very insistent that the children there, who are between not quite 2 (ds) and two and a half should sit still during circle time at the beginning and singing at the end, for 10 mins or longer. Now ds has special needs but from my recollection my dd's wouldn't have been that keen either, or am I wrong?

I think you're right. I'm not sure many children would stay sat for that long. It of course dpends on the child but few of my friend's children of this age could manage it! Certainly my ds couldn't but he's only 10 months old and can't sit for more than a minute without crawling off somewhere so Idoubt he'll be able to when he's 2 either!

no, is normal for a 2-year-old to struggle with sitting still. I used to work in a preschool. We could manage it with more docile types (usually girls) but most of the boys couldn't manage circle time until around 2.5, more often 3...under 2s, nah!

I had to leave an otherwise lovely toddler group because my ds aged 2 would not 'sit nicely' at song time - he wanted to be standing up and dancing and this ws Not Acceptable
