I (and others) strongly believe my daughter is ADHD. She is almost 10 years and is such a happy, kind and sweet soul. There are no issues at school as she is not disruptive or in any way hyperactive, and she is managing her schoolwork fine (at an average level). She has a great group of friends and is universally liked with no behavioural issues whatsoever. However, she is and has always been, unbelievably distracted and you have to work to bring her attention back to you. Her thoughts skip around constantly and she is the very epitome of ditzy. She will often lose attention half way through a sentence for example and just fail to finish what she’s saying as her mind has skipped on to something else. We do have ADHD on both sides of her family but not in me or my partner. We are in Scotland but she goes to a small and very caring school. I would love to know a few things from anyone with experience in this: 1) how does one even go about seeking a diagnosis? 2) is there anything to gain from a diagnosis? I am not sure I’d want to do anything differently as she is very happy, the school aren’t raising any issues and I’m not sure medication is warranted? Thank you in advance for your advice!
