I took a DS of our friends of our out in our car the other day and he said that he didn't need a booster seat , I spoke with Mum and she said that he is over the height . 1.35metres .

I have measured my DS who is 7 yrs old and he is the same !

Amazing seeing as the law says 12 yrs or height !

Anyone esle child well under 12 yrs and has reached the legal height ?

my ds1 has just turned 9 and is well over 135cm. However he still uses a booster seat as it protects the internal organs from the lap belt part of the seat belt

geekgirl · 16/06/2008 14:41

yes, dd1 is 8 and 137 cm. She's rather pleased to not be using a booster anymore!

yes my ds is 9 almost 10 and reached the height a while ago. although he doesnt want to get off his booster! our seat says its for upto 150cm so i explained to him i would rather he stayed onit until he was this height as they must say this for a reason. he is now 148cm and very attached to his seat, i've gently suggested he stops using it for shorter journeys but he doesnt want to

My DS wil still be using his booster seat - jsut amazed at the height and age ratio.

Rospa wanted the height to be 150cm and that is what I insist on in our car. DD1 is almost 11 and only recently graduated from hers.

dylsmum1998 · 16/06/2008 14:45

it does seem very different doesnt it. do worry about my nephew he is 5 and not much shorter than my ds, if he continues growing as he is he'll be very young off the booster

i always make children use them in my car- regardless of in their parents. i say my car my rules on you get!

CaptainUnderpants · 16/06/2008 14:46

I can see why they wanted the height to be 150cm.

if you look at the height charts in the 'red book', the average child (50th centile) reaches 135 cm at 9.25 years.

ingles2 · 16/06/2008 14:50

my ds1 reached the 1.35 at 7 too but I still had him on a booster seat until very recently when I realised his head was way above the headrest
he's now 8.8 and 1.47

CaptainUnderpants · 16/06/2008 14:51

Well up until a couple of months ago Ds was still in the car seat but he looked so uncomfotable so we took the back off it and just used the booster seat part.

See my dd is the other extreme, she is only just 135cm but is 11, so she has just stopped using a car seat.

ds on the other hand is 8 and 133cm so it won't be long before he doesn't need one either

dylsmum1998 · 16/06/2008 14:55

my ds is only on the booster part, he doesnt have the back on it anymore

WigWamBam · 16/06/2008 15:04

Dd is just seven, and is at that height.

She's still in her car seat though, and will be for quite some while yet. She may not legally need one, but as she is still safer in one she will continue to use it.
