Autism assessment via video call

My 3 year old ds has got his second appointment with paediatric doctor this one will be via video call.
has anyone had an autism assessment via video call? Are they able to actually give a diagnosis via video call?

he has had one face to face appointment and she believes he has autism but wanted to get feed back from his nursery and speech and language therapist.

Ds was diagnosed during covid and did his assessments over video call. It was really good actually.

I wasn't sure (he was 12yo at the time) if he'd have come to an appointment as he hates going to any doctors, but he engaged really well and they had a really thorough report made that I felt they got him and his personality as well as they would have face to face - possibly better as he tends to freeze with strangers in person.

We received the diagnosis via a telephone call. Ot sounds as though they’ve already done the assessment and this appointment could be your DS’ diagnosis? If that’s the case, do you have any questions ready that you want to ask?

i do have things I want to ask but it will probably be things she will cover anyway, will try to write them down in case there’s things she doesn’t cover

My son and I took our little boy (my grandson) to be assessed a few days go. He's 40 months old and completely nonverbal. The doctor is a retired pediatrician, in her 70's, same age as me. She let him play for almost two hours as she talked to us. We were told not to really interact with him, just let him play. She was watching him as he played with the toys provided and his teddy. I couldn't image doing this over the phone. I just wouldn't be comfortable with the assessment.
We're in the U.S.

@ElaineBurdock my ds did have a face to face meeting early last year, someone mentioned this could be the diagnosis/ outcome from that and all the information she wanted from his nursery and speech and language

Have you had the call yet @MyDeepDreamer?

MyDeepDreamer · 11/02/2026 15:57

@SleafordSods Yes the video call wasn’t working so spoke on phone she just asked how things where going and she wants to see him again after he’s had a few more sessions with speech language

That seems reasonable. Did they give any idea of when this might be?

@SleafordSods she said in next couple of months he’s only just started speech and language so hopefully will get an appointment for at least October/ November time
