Normal 3.5yo behaviour?

DD is 3.5yo and over the last couple of months or so has developed an obsession with everything being ‘stinky’. If something has even a whiff of a scent she starts crying, like the smell of dinner. She asks to smell my hands/body before I come near her and gets really upset if there’s any sort of smell on me. It’s really starting to affect her day to day life as inevitably there’s always some sort of smell about!

Other than that I’d say she’s a pretty NT child, she can be a little sensitive, but she attends preschool etc and I’ve never heard any other comments.

Am I over thinking it? At what point do I become concerned?

First thing is to check if she has any smell aversion at all at preschool, and if not then it might just be a little phase of controlling behaviour centred on smell at home. Absolutely everything has a smell, does she get upset at soapy smells at bathrobe, or is it food smells and food smells on hands mostly?

Well one of the questions in the ASD assessment is if you are over sensitive to smells so it’s definitely something to keep an eye on.

How does she score on this simple progress checker?
