Probably ADHD, on waiting list for assessment.
Very smart, advanced at school, can be a delight but longstanding issues with emotional regulation, very often moody, often gets angry and rude.
Every few days big meltdowns. He isn't violent as such, doesn't hit us, but shouts, swears, hits stuff in his room, scratches at himself. Can be triggered by lots of things but eg today the programme to do his homework wouldn't load into the laptop and all efforts to help were met with anger as he got more frustrated.
We try and keep calm obviously, we don't always succeed as sometimes we understandably do get angry at him when he's being horrible. But eg today we've been super calm, reasonable and trying to be helpful and this has still lasted about an hour on and off, so far. We try and get him to process emotions and he will apologise afterwards.
He has a younger sister who is similar in some ways but gets upset rather than angry. I don't love that she's listening to the anger and swearing.
No big life problems, he has generally a nice life, close immediate and extended family etc.
Is a child psychologist a good idea? Or someone else? Or keep going and he'll grow out of it? Is this normal?
