My DS1 is 2 next month and is only using single words. He uses loads of them and knows lots of concepts but does not put them together in sentences. I was hoping that this would come by the time he was two but the days are going by and still nothing. Am I right to be concerned?

Lori, my ds is 21 months, so not far behind. He is the same as your ds1. I think it is too early to be concerned.

My dd was slow to take off in her speech. I don't think she said very much until 2.5 and then there was no stopping her language development. She is fine at 4.9.

If you are concerned, mention to your health visitor and ask to be put on a waitlist for a referral to a speech and language therapist. These waitlists are long and by the time your ds1's turn comes up, you will know whether you still have an issue.

Thanks everyone for you reassurances. The HV says she will do his 2 year check on him so that should pick up any problems
