Hi all

My baby girl is 9 weeks old and doesn’t really make a lot of eye contact, however, she is so smiley and does social smile a lot (as a reaction to either me smiling at her without talking to her, and me talking to her). I’m a bit concerned as her eyes do move side to side a lot and she isn’t interested in trying to track objects currently. It’s really playing on my mind as mother in law keeps making comments about her eye contact/movement and it’s making me so anxious. It’s making me overthink and lose sleep over it.

I did mention this at my 6-8 week postnatal doctors appointment and my doctor wasn’t concerned at all. My dr said if I am still worried after 3 months of age then they will have another check up.

Was anyone else in a similar situation, and if so, what was the outcome?

If I’m honest it’s been a while since mine were that little and you do forget. I’m sure it’s probably the same for your DMIL.

If you’re worried at all you could complete the 2 month Ages & Stages. They aren’t expected to score in the white in every section, scoring in the grey in 2 areas is pretty normal. If LO os in the ferry for more than 2 areas though, or is in the black for any area then I would ask to speak to your HV and show her the results.

@BH1203 could you google nystagmus and see if that fits your daughter's eye movement pattern. If so, you need to get an earlier referral.
