Hi,
This is my first time on mumsnet asking a question so bear with me!
DD is 4 months old and up until last Tuesday was bf exclusively, she is quite a hungry baby and was waking 2 - 3 times a night which was making me exhausted, I was finding that giving her a bottle of EBM before she went to sleep saw her through from about 7 until 4 which was great...then her appetite just got bigger and bigger and I couldn't keep up and was too exhausted to express. On advice of HV I started to give her a top up of formula which seemed to work fine for a couple of days. From about Saturday her poos have been really frequent ( 10 a day) and as much as I try and change her frequently she now has a nappy rash, I am using metanium cream, using water and airing so hopefully it will clear.
So I called the HV who said that maybe DD is intolerant to the lactose and to try Soy formula, I tried to not use a top up at all as i felt so guilty but then she was hungry and up at 1 am and 3 am and 6 am and eventually guzzled down formula.
Soy has not made things any better or worse to be honest but the poos are still frequent and loose.
Other things she is doing is dribbling a lot and chewing her fists which sound to me like teething.
The final problem is that she is really upset today and has been since 4 am - she wont feed from me which is really upsetting me so i have been expressing madly but there is only so much i can do!! I finally gave her some calpol as she seemed beside herself and she has been sleeping for 2 hours now.
I guess I needed to air but my question is
- Is refusing to feed from me a sign of teething as i heard that nursing can aggravate the gums?
I feel like this is really all my fault for introducing formula and upsetting her gut as it seems too cooincidental that the runny poos and nappy rash are happening as soon as i opened the SMA can!
would really love to hear from nayone who has had a similar experience.
Thanks and sorry for the long message
