Child refuses to show us new things

Does anyone’s child, aged 8, hate others seeing a new toy? As an example; Child gets a toy from a relative but will not show parent what it is, they hide it and say it’s a secret or a surprise, even though you know what it is. Child’s brother was drawing them a picture, but because parent saw it, the child now doesn’t want it. What is this? Control? Anxiety?

It must be a pretty nice toy. When a toy has value its hard to let go and share. But sharing is caring.
