co-sleeping toddler..

I quite like co-sleeping with dd, 2 tomorrow, but she is due to start staying overnight with her dad in 2 weeks' time, and even if he doesn't mind (he probably will) i don't want him to because he smokes and drinks a lot, and is (well, was) quite a bedhog. so as reluctant as i and she are, i need to get dd sleeping in her cot pronto. is it possible?

I don't see why you have to change anything, IME and O children are quite able to accept different rules with different people, so she could carry on sleeping with you at your house but sleep seperately at her dad's.

I coslept with my dd till she was 2. For me it was the right time for her to get her own bed ( and for me to get my own space).
She adapted to it v quickly, a couple of nights of fussing but has been brilliant at sleeping ever since. I still lie down with her for 5 mins before she goes to sleep though, and she is now 7! Don't think I'll give that up for awhile

ok i'm still torn! i've been toying with the idea of taking the sides off her cotbed anyway to make it more like mummy's but i think she's quite likely to just jump out and bee-line for my bed each time if i do that. she will go to sleep in her cot after a minor battle with me staying in the room but won't sleep through.
