Is this normal for a 9 year old?

DS got dressed for school this morning. I could see his vest under his jumper was inside out and back to front. Told him, he took it all off and started again.

Now it was the right way round but still back to front. He started again.

Got the vest on right, now the jumper was back to front.

These are tops with a clear right way round- with labels on the next, or logo on the front.

This isn’t an unusual occurrence.

He often makes silly mistakes like this and it’s starting to affect his confidence.

Sometimes he‘ll got to the toilet (hit and miss if he’ll flush it) and wash his hands. I‘ll ask him to brush his teeth (time for school or bedtime) and he‘ll pull down his trousers to go to the toilet, as though he forgot he just went.

Is he just a bit scatterbrained? Is anyone else’s kid like this? DD is 6 and not like this at all.

I would say it was a little unusual at 9, especially if it’s happening regularly.

It sounds as though he may be having some trouble with listening to and carrying out instructions?

Do you think it’s worth talking to his Teacher to see if they have noticed anything?

And how does he score on this simple progress checker?

Thanks. I did the questionnaire, it said he might need extra help. I have a meeting with his teacher in 2 weeks anyway, so I‘ll see what she says

Ok so if he needs a bit of support you could talk to the School Nurse Service before you talk to the Teacher and ask for advice on getting a referral for a hearing test and for some SaLT?
