Baby trying to crawl 5 months

My little boy just turned five months a couple days ago, he started rolling consistently about 3 weeks ago both ways, and the last few days I’ve noticed he’s started to lift his back legs up, like bum in the sky when he’s on his belly but seems to be really frustrated that he can’t work out how to get his arms to work with it or lift his upper body up, did anyone else experience this and how long after did your baby start to crawl or any tips on helping him feel less frustrated.

How long crawling takes is hugely variable, I'm afraid. My first wasn't bothered about crawling, would have preferred to go straight to walking. She didn't really seem to 'practice' or be frustrated, and then suddenly crawled one day when she decided she wanted to move, even if she couldn't yet walk. My second we had two months of intense frustration before she cracked it.

Unfortunately there's a fairly limited amount you can do when they are frustrated about a milestone – basically just offer distraction, like going out for a walk or to a baby group when you can't take it any more, and giving them plenty of time to practice their skills. You can offer opportunities to reach, kick, grab, etc. and do things like swimming, and it will all generally help their strength and coordination.
