4 month old DD has downy hair in 'pubic area'

Just noticed while changing her nappy. It's at the front and over labia where pubes grow. It's very fine and pale, but she doesn't have body hair anywhere else, not even arms and legs. Is this normal? Anybody know? I am now worrying about premature puberty...

I've seen this before on a little one I cared for in nursery. She didn't have any other body hair either, although the hair on head grew like mad! Have heard it's fine and sometimes will disappear, but sometimes not.

I stopped breastfeeding about a month ago. Thanks for your replies, I will get it checked. Does anyone else know anything?

My DD had it at about 7-8 months old. It was at about the same time as she had bad nappy rash, so I guessed it might be something to do with that. It went away after a bit (rash and hair) and has never come back. At the time I was introducing lots of new fruit to her diet but dunno if that had anything to do with it?

fiodyl · 05/06/2008 17:51

Oh and she was growing loads of hair on her head at the time too, but again I don't know if its related or not?

Dynamicnanny · 05/06/2008 17:53

Woulddef get it checked out better to be overcautious and all that - cared for a toddler at nursery who had this and she had to take some sort of medication - nothing serious though

My DS has a patch of hair at the base of his back, and lots on his head, but none anywhere else. I haven't worried about it, and the GP and HV have seen it and not said anything so I assumed it was all right .

Hi, she doesn't have nappy rash at the mo. Oh dear, I am really worried now - was hoping lots of mums were going to say it is normal for girls! I have two older boys so no experience with DDs.

Im sure it is nothing to worry about, but do get it checked if you are worried.

IIRC the HV would have seen it at the time as I remember showing her the nappy rash and asking about creams etc. So if it was something serious she would have said/done something- shes very good at handing out medicines at the slightest symptom of anything!!!!

Thanks for the reassurance fiodyl, I hope you're right. Will take her to be checked by the doctor. If anybody else has experienced this though, please let me know, than ks.
