Hello all. My son just turned one and I noticed that he doesnt respond to his name 92% of the time. His hearing is fine, got it checked. He is walking properly, he only says baba tay tay and mama sometimes, he does play with his toys and babble alot, he is very active and interactive and does good eye contact when called. Do I need to worry or is it too early ? Please help 🥺 also he spread arms when I go to pick him up

Have you seen the HV for his 12 month check yet @mmkn? Smile

Yes it was at 10 months and everything was normal.

Ok so if everything was ok a month ago, what’s changed in 2 months?

Is there something that is particularly worrying you?

Honestly I was so happy with his development and everything until someone at a party asked me that why isn't he responding to his name to his name when being called. And after that I am so worried, calling him all day long with his name which I didn’t before. And most of the time he doesn’t respond, he only responds when I sing his favourite rhyme or make funny sounds

So I can understand that one comment being a little upsetting but people do tend to make strange comments about our DC all of the time.

And not responding to their name is one of the things they look for if they are assessing for ASD but it’s just one thing if many criteria.

It might be worth you doing the 12 month Social & Emotional Ages & Stages and seeing how he scores on that Flowers

I checked the score and it is below 40 which is low risk. Thanks for sharing it ❤️

That’s no problem. I think sometimes these comments can make you pause and think but luckily these days we have so much information available it is easy enough to check of our LOs are in track or of they need a little support Smile

Yup true. A little comment made my world go upside down 🥹
