Hi

I think my 9 year old daughter I'd going through puberty. She is starting to develop in the chest area, has hair down below and the worst mood swings iv ever witnessed. She has body odour, which is a nightmare as I tell her bath and use deodorant but her hormones don't like me telling her what to do and it ends in anger.

I feel she started showing signs about age 8, and I was concerned it was early so spoke to the school nursing team, who told me to speak to the GP as it could be precarious puberty?. I spoke to the GP who shut me down abruptly and said its not too early etc. So I have been dealing with it for almost 18 months I would say.

She is my eldest, so this is all new to me, her behaviour at school is deteriorating, she's falling out with friends often and coming home crying, saying she does not want to go back and the schoolmare constantly calling me about her behaviour.

I am at a loss as to what to do? Is 9 too early to be going through puberty? (She's 10 next month). I explain to the school that I think it's all down to hormones but surely they should be able to recognise this?

She is driving me insane, the slightest thing and she goes off like a grenade shouting and banging things around... also, does it get better? 🫣 TIA

I really do feel for you. I’m not sure if it’s too early or not but girls do sometimes get their periods at 9 or 10? Is she aware of AF and puberty and what’s coming?

Could you talk to the School Nurse service again?
