Tips to interest a 6 year old in reading?

Hello. My just turned 6 year old (August baby) has just started in year two. He is a very bright boy (working at greater depths in reading and writing/English). He got to the final stage of the Read Write Inc programme in year 1. He’s now been given a reading book (Oxford Level 13?) to read at home and log. He absolutely will not read it and just messes about when I try to get him to sit and read it. I’ve tried making it fun and saying he just has to read three pages a day. I’m worried he’ll get behind because he says it’s too long and boring. I think he’ll agree to read the books we’ve got at home but obviously he’s been given a book at school that is appropriate for his reading level. Does anyone have any tips on how to encourage him to read? Many thanks

Can you read a paragraph and him read the next so ots not too daunting?

You might get a few more tips if you ask in Primary Education though Smile
