When did your early riser start having occasional lie-ins?

ds2 (9) has always been an early bird - hideously early at some points - but for the past few years he's stuck to 7am pretty rigidly.

In fact that's the point. He needs a lot of sleep, but even if he has a very late night, he still wakes up and gets up at 7 am. Then he gets grumpy and crotchetty by the end of the day.

Also, often when we are away (and we go away a lot), we sleep all in one room, and that means we all wake up at 7am.

Anyway, I'm just wondering when he might grow out of it?!

Hmm, mine started having lie ins around 13, and went from up-at-7 to cannot-leave-the-bed-til-midday.. Not sure which was worse

My DH still wakes up at 5.30. He's 40. Sorry to depress you.

As a result our two sons are early risers. I say to him: it's your genes and you're up, deal with it.

Sorry, not very helpful. But I will say that DS1 was a consistent 5.30 riser and has recently started sleeping till 7. He's 4. DS2 has gone from 5.30 to 6.15. So there's progress....

Sorry Roisn but dd1 (almost 12) and 3 have inherited dh's genes, wake up at 6.30 or so and immediately pick up a book, wide awake, and start reading. DD2 and i are slovens and turn over and go back to sleep

And dd1 & 3 cannot stay up late and be human the next day... recently bed at 11 after neighbours' family barbecue just meant tears by 8am..

I think just give them a torch and getthem reading first thing when you share a room

Pofaced - I think I will try that with a torch next time we are room-sharing, and see how we get on.

I like YHAs and so on, because then I just let him get up and sit in a lounge in his PJs reading, then he doesn't disturb us!

I always feel such a misery guts when declining evening invitations for the family, but they really struggle the next day if they don't get enough sleep; and so often it is just not worth it.

Mine is 8 and religiously gets up at 6.30am regardless of when she went to bed and will not lie in even if feeling tired...

So I would be happy with 7am!!

funnily enough, this weekend is a bank holiday in Ireland and dd1 (11) has now been up "late" for 3 nights in a row: watching lord of the rimgs dvd for 2 nights (bed at 10 for 2 nights running) & then I'd do anything last night (9.30 or so) and has just toddled off to bed after chatting to us in a very grown up way so maybe perseverance works too... but dd3 (8) is an anti-christ after it all..

DD (8) gets up at 7am every day regardless of her bedtime -she would probably get up earlier given the chance but we have a 7 o'clock rule ie. not allowed to get up (other than to loo obviously) before 7.

DS (nearly 4 ) occasionally wakes 7.30 ish but normally hes a 7am waker too.

We've just been away for the week and the DC have been to bed about 2 hours later than normal bedtime every night for a week but they've still been up pretty much the normal time except for DS this morning who woke at 8.45 am .

The thing is any lie-ins are totally random and they never both sleep late9or even slightly later) on the same morning

You're lucky, DS1 (nearly 9) is by my side right now saying he can't sleep, and he'll be up at 6, always is.

he just doesn't seem to need a lot of sleep.

Poor roisin, not much consolation on this thread.........
