2 year old can’t stand from sitting position

Hello,

My DS has just turned 2, he has been delayed in meeting most his developmental milestones and didn’t walk until 21 months. He still can’t stand up from sitting position and it’s getting us a bit worried, I have seen him do it twice but hardly even attempts it now, he will either crawl to something to help pull him up or put his arms up to be picked up. Seeing as though I have seen him do it I feel like he has the physical ability, more that he just thinks there’s an easier way?

He isn’t very confident in general, he likes to be close to us and if he’s somewhere new he either won’t walk or won’t let go of our hand, so when he does fall or lose his balance and sit down, he gets really frustrated but yet won’t even try to get up!

He has his 2 year check with the HV who said it’s a bit odd, but as we’re under paediatrics she just said to mention it at our next appointment. She advised having a bit more tough love to try encourage him but we really do try, there’s only so long I can leave him sat on the floor in public whinging to be picked up!

Has anyone got any advice please or experienced similar?

If he didn’t walk until 21 months are you under Physio as well as Paeds? How did he score generally in the 2 year check? Was the gross motor skills in the grey or black? Was he in the grey in any other areas?

No they never referred him as he was cruising, climbing etc. He was in the grey I think, and yes in every area he was grey or black apart from fine motor skills.
