Hello,
A question on sibling play that I never seem able to find any answers to. DS is 7 and DD is 3 and a half.
How do you deal with an almost frenzied, hyper state of playing together? Running around the house, shouting and screeching, laughing and giggling uncontrollably and getting overly physical, until inevitably someone gets hurt or upset and it all breaks down.
They're not fighting, in fact they seem to be enjoying themselves - but we find it disruptive, loud and ultimately unsafe.
Often happens if we've been out and return home, or transitioning from one activity to another. They don't respond to firm requests to stop (almost as if they can't hear us as they are so focused on each other), sometimes we ignore it and it stops, but often not - then the only route we have is to go to a separate room with one of them. This will result in anger and tantrums.
DS, though older, often descends to the level of his sister when they play together - he's quite introverted and likes to follow others. DD is the complete opposite - bold, confident and not shy of telling you what she thinks.
Does anyone have similar experiences - what do you do to calm the situation or stop it getting out of control? Thank you!
