3 year old doesn't want to go to nursery because of one boy

My 3 year old DD tells me almost every morning that she doesn't want to go to nursery and often acts up because of it.
She always says it's because of a boy she goes to nursery with, she has known him for a long time and was even best friends with him until about 6 months ago. Though he is younger than my DD, he is a big boy with 5 older brothers whom he wrestles and roughhouses with so he doesn't always know his own strength when it comes to those smaller than him. It doesn't help that he has become a bit naughty and defiant recently.

Let me make it clear that my DD doesn't hate him, I have often seen her hugging, playing and talking with him (and occasionally telling him off) when I go to pick her up, and she often tells me she has had a good day and doesn't always want to leave right away.

I have told her to tell the boy "No, I don't like it" and walk away from him if he is upsetting her, but every day she complains about him. The nursery does their best, but can't stop every incident.

Does anybody know what I can do to help her with this problem?
