ds, 2, is starting to stammer...

Ds is 2.2 and his speech has developed a lot the last 2 or 3 months. He uses sentences and usually could be understood by a stranger. In the last 2 weeks or so he has been really struggling to get words out - he'll say mu mu mu 10 or 15 times before he manages mummy, for example. It's generally easy words he has trouble with.

Is this just a phase of language development? Does anyone have any experience? And how should I handle it - I'm assuming just wait for him to finish, should I say something reassuring?

Any advice much appreciated.

When DS1 was 2 and a bit, he went through a phase of stammering. We were quite worried, but it stopped after about a week or two and didn't happen again.

We never commented on the stammering.

A year or so later, I asked a speech therapist friend of mine about it and she said that it's normal to have periods of stammering.

Thanks Mungarra, that's reassuring.
