Toddler and new baby

Grandson is 30 months old and has a 2 month old sister. He wasn't a particularly advanced speaker before her arrival - he'd say maybe one or 2 words together but didn't answer questions or ask for things.
Since the baby came he seems to be saying fewer words and not engaging with people as much.

Is this a normal reaction to a new baby?

I don’t think it is no and I would be concerned about a 30 month older using less language than before.

Difficult though if it’s your DGS. Has your DD/DS expressed any concerns?

If they have you could perhaps suggest that they try this very simple progress checker or talk to the Nursery manager about him losing language at home?
