I am struggling

My son is 3 and a half, and I get on with him so well but he is sooo difficult, he non stop picks his nails, hates change of routine, is not really interested in socialising ( goes to nursery but has to be made to socialise) he is very particular…. If he don’t put his drink or toothbrush in the right place he has a screaming fit…. He gets angry very quick and he struggles to calm down from tantrums or any form of upset. He doesn’t like staying with any family members apart from me, dad. Saying that for 3 years of his life he would not not look or want to know any family members. Anyone that talks to him he won’t reply and sometimes would cry. I connect very well with my son and I understand him very well but even I find some days so hard and I don’t know what to do.

Have Nursery raised any concerns @Wren28or made any suggestions?

I think if it were me I would talk to my HV and ask her to assess him as you’re a bit worried about his lack of social engagement and rigidity in routine.

You can fill in the 3.5 year Ages & Stages before the appointment. They’re not expected to score white in every area, most will score grey in one or two areas. If it’s more than that or DS is scoring Blavk on any area then she may want to refer him.

I would also fill in the 48 month Social & Emotional Ages & Stages. You can ask your HV to score these for you or you can score them yourself and ask to discuss the results with her.

Let us know how you get on Flowers
