My 21 month DS says "GO AWAY" to everyone - all the time...

At first when he learnt it (because I say it to the cats, quite a lot ) he also used it to mean "come here", and it's also a bit of a blanket phrase meaning "take that away", "I'm not eating that" etc etc.

However, it's getting far too overused and it sounds quite rude (he really says it like he means it.) Should I try to train him out of it or will it just be a phase? I don't want him to know it annoys me because he'll probably go for it even more...Any ideas?

Teach by example and try not to say it any more, even if it just to the cats. REplace it with another phrase that sounds less rude perhaps?

Other than that, it is just a phrase and as he gets older and starts talking more he'll hopefullyl say it less.

I would say it's a phase, and it'll wear off, especially if you don't pay it any attention.

If he's using it in the wrong context (to mean 'come here' or 'I don't want it') then you could try positive reinforcement on the correct phrase. When he says it, say 'do you mean 'xxx'?' and then wait to see if he agrees. And don't do the thing he wants until he agrees, iyswim.

OverMyDeadBody - believe me, I've learnt my lesson and don't say it anymore!

Good advice LittleMyDancing, will try that.

Unfortunately a lot of the time he is telling me (and others) to go away, and means exactly that. Cheeky little so and so.

I'm sure it will wear off. My nephew went through a phase of saying that people were ugly - which varied from hysterical to v embarrasing.
