So i will get right to the point and give as much detail as i can without basically screaming who i am.
i have a 3 almost 4 year old boy.
we thought he might have autism as both sides of the family have a history of it and he is showing signs.
My health visitor was concerned following the 2/ 2 1/2 year old review and refereed us to see a pediatrician who refereed him for a multi agency assessment which we went to in March this year (2025), in between all this we have been going to speech and language therapy.
at the assessment they said they wont diagnose him without knowing what he is like interacting with other children so we have to go back when after he starts school this September, they did note he has 'severe language delay and other general delays'
he does talk but its very limited and most of the time its babbling sort of talking which we are only sort of able to understand/ make out.
this is the signs we have noticed:
- Loves licking
- loves spinning things
- hates loud sudden noised (hair dryers, hand dryers etc)
- temper is bad, he hits, bites, scratches punches etc.
- very picky eater
- flaps hands
- tip toe walking
- fiddles with our ears for comfort/ safety blanket
- very intelligent, we just have to show him once and he has mastered it,
- late to meet milestones such as walking, crawling etc.
- hisses/ grows at people
- has a favorite word he will say over and over all day
- will bolt. he will run out of a store if he doesn't get his own way
- hates anything that moves on its own (remote control cars, rumbas etc)
- laughs randomly when something isn't even funny.
there's other things but i could go on for miles tbh
whats concerns me is when he starts school, when he is in a tantrum he hurts me, i don't want him hurting another child.
We have tried getting a EHC plan but was refused.
Any help would be very appreciated, id rather get this sorted now so we can help him as best we can as early intervention is very beneficial apparently.
So this is what i need help with.
if its not autism, what is it?
