Why does my 12 year old behave like this?

I have a 12 year old who is generally quite well behaved and no problems reported from school. However, she quite often (more and more so) has what I would describe as tantrums at home. For example, if we have said we are going somewhere and plans have to change, she screams and yells and slams doors and says some awful things to us.
I was putting this down to hormonal changes etc, but I’m not so sure. We are living on a knife’s edge waiting for the next tantrum when she is told that she can’t go somewhere or can’t have something.
She is an only child and we have tried to put clear boundaries in place and not spoil her/ask relatives not to spoil her too much, but we taker her places and she doesn’t go without. I also try to talk to her often and let her know she can come to me if she has problems, but we are just a bit worried about this behaviour. Any advice gratefully received.

I can remember a 12 being tricky. DD was full of hormones and I was starting the Peri.

I was given a copy of Untangled and it really helped Flowers

Thank you. I will take a look at that.
