Creche - Head Banging

Hello - looking for some advice.

My son is 26 months old, he has a speech delay but is progressing really well, just at a slower pace than normal! It has caused frustration for him and he does sometimes bang his head on the floor/wall when in a tantrum. We’ve spoke to the HV and she said it’s totally normal, just a sign of frustration as he can’t vocalise his wants yet. It doesn’t happen often, maybe 2/3 times a week and last about 20 seconds. We weren’t worrying too much about it, hoping it’s just a phase he will outgrow once his speech progresses.

Today we got pulled aside at Creche and told they were seriously worried about the head banging, that it’s worse in Creche and not normal, that they’ve never seen it before!! He has only been there for 6 weeks and we are absolutely gutted to hear this from them. They asked us do we talk to him which of course we do and made us feel really bad. They want to monitor him and want us to get him checked out by the doctor which we already have and there’s nothing that can be done. He had his 2 year developmental check and is doing great in every area apart from speech which we are waiting on SLT sessions for.

I just feel so heartbroken from the conversation and now I’m worried sick about him. Has anyone else been through this? Any advice?

im sorry that you and your DS are struggling. When you had the two year check did they also ask you to fill in the 2 year Social & Emotional Ages & Stages?
