My 20 month DS is usually a really good sleeper - 90 minute nap at 12:30pm and bedtime at 7pm - usually goes down easily.
He uses a dummy all the time but not at all at nursery. This morning I decided it’s time to say goodbye to the dummy. I cut a small hole in it, when he asked for it I gave it to him and we spoke about how it is “broken”, and to my pleasant surprise he independently threw it in the bin and never mentioned it again.
At naptime he was a nightmare going down, took at least 2 hours which is so unlike him. He also figured out how to climb out of his cot today and how to open doors.
We took one of the sides off his cot and did his usual bedtime routine but he refused to go down. He’s currently still awake and having a meltdown.
We live in a 3 story townhouse with his room on the middle floor. As he’s never been able to open doors, we don’t have stair gates (DH is on his way to ASDA now to get some). Even then, I’m concerned about him catching his fingers if he tries to open the door in the night. Do I wedge the door open and put the stair gate on the door?
DH and his parents say this is too much change at once and to give him his dummy back. I see their point but he’s hasn’t asked for the dummy once (he typically would demand it non-stop).
To top it off I noticed two red chickenpox like spots at bath time, no doubt the next thing to deal with.
Does anyone have any advice or support? Feels like everything’s going wrong at once.
