5 year old - phase or therapy?

My 5.5 year old is really going through something and it’s all come on quite suddenly and I’m not sure where to start.

They currently narrate almost all the thoughts they’re thinking in their head, out loud and it’s almost always about a ‘risky’ subject like ‘bad words’ or ‘private parts’ (they’ve been doing the pants rule a lot at school and talking about how they shouldn’t say swear words or similar). They’ll say ‘I was thinking of a bad word, I was going to call you a bad world, I’m thinking of pulling my pants down, I don’t like you mummy’ and this will be one sentence, and there’ll be 1000 more in the same hour.

I’ve explained to them that they don’t have to tell me every thought they have and they can keep some thoughts to themselves if they’d like, we’ve had conversations about how we can’t control thoughts and how we all have ‘bad’ thoughts at times, but it’s such hard work and at times if feels like all our usual nice conversations has pretty much dried up. I’d say 80% of the conversations we’re having and the behaviour I’m seeing is new and not something they’d have said/done two weeks ago.

Nothing of note has happened in those two weeks. We’ve had some lovely times infact, they’ve not been ill and we’ve had no issues at all. They’re fine at school, fine at other peoples houses, fine when we’re out, infact it’s pretty much only at home.

I’m feeling lost with it all and had a cry in the bathroom this evening as it’s such hard work, they just really doesn’t seem themselves and I miss how we usually are. I’m feeling so sorry for them too.

Is there any chance this could be a phase, end of term tiredness?
