Don't worry. It's really fairly common to start puberty at the age of 10-11. Some girls begin having periods as early as 8. If you are struggling to explain things to her there are some great books. I'm sure someone will be along soon to recommend one!

I'm a science teacher btw, and cover puberty in year 7 (age 11), even though most girls will have had 'the talk' in Year 5 or 6 at primary school.

We are very open and have done the sex talk and period talk, it just totally threw me when I saw hair under her arms!

She is doing sex ed at school in a couple of weeks.

I feel a right numpty but I guess its quite scary when your DD starts growing up!

I think the order in which they develop is variable, as dd1 is 13 and has the beginnings of v. small boobs, but no underarm hair at all.

cruisemum1 · 14/05/2008 14:49

my dd has little boobs appearing but no hair yet! she gets a bit whiffy if she doesn't wash properly and her hair is getting greasy. I guess they must all develop differently. Are there any other signs?

cruisemum1 · 14/05/2008 14:49

she was 10 in January btw

smartiejake · 14/05/2008 15:53

Hormonal tantrums/ mood swings!

wangle99 · 16/05/2008 21:47

No other signs yet really, her hair always looks lank (its very fine) so god knows who it will look when it gets greasy!

Bit of a scary interest in boys though

My 10 year old Dd has greasy, hair , boobs and some fine punic hair, but none under the arms yet. She has also had a huge growth spurt.
She has just gone out with her best friend to the local gym (10 minutes walk), by themselves for the first time.

CrackerOfNuts · 17/05/2008 14:20

Dd1 also 10 has a tiny bit of underarm hair and is starting to develop breasts, oh and her hair has gone greasy.

CrackerOfNuts · 17/05/2008 14:20

Dd also has the attitude and mood swings, but has had those since about age 2 lol.

suedonim · 17/05/2008 15:20

My dd started developing when she was younger than 10 but she hasn't been fast-forwarded into full adolescence yet even though she's now 12. It's a very slow process for her, for which I'm . Because she's the youngest of four dc, she's very aware of her position as the baby of the family and wants to take full advanatge of that for as long as possible!
