how to get co-sleeping baby into a cot?

Hullo. Our 11 week old has been sleeping really well with us - but our bed is high and DH is not sleeping so well (he is a worrier). Before she starts moving it is time to get her settled in her cot. Does anyone have any experience and tips on this?

i have a 12 week old who's just the same. he sleeps in his cot for naps, and for the first part of the night, but always ends up in bed with me in a single bed with him against the wall - DH stays in double bed and is in charge of our eldest DS if he wakes up.

try using the cot for naps in the daytime first so she starts to associate the cot with sleeping. perhaps stay in the room with her in the cot so she doesn't feel totally alone, until she's asleep.

don't worry - this will come in time i think the sleeping alone is a big step for a baby and they ned to build up their confidence gradually.

you could try just putting your mattress on the floor and carry-on co-sleeping. OR just put a cot mattress on the floor for baby.

Baby on the edge, you in the middle, Dh on the other side, and have a bed guard. Ooh, look, here is a hot pink one

Or you can get those sidecar cots which extend the bedspace a lot

I moved my daughter into one of the sidecar cots when she was about 16 weeks. She can be right next to me but not actually in the bed which means we all sleep much better. In fact I now find that I can really only settle her in the cot but it did take a couple of nights of just sitting next to her and patting her to soothe her to sleep - first night she cried for an hour, next night for about half an hour and third night she settled.

It was much less painful than I expected. By 18 weeks she was rolling over and now wriggles all round the cot so I agree you need to ger her used to it before she starts
getting too mobile!
