Autistic toddler and nursery

My two year old little boy is on the waiting list for an autism diagnosis, he doesn't speak and doesn't understand much, he stims a lot, doesn't answer to his name etc. I am due to go back to work after my second baby in June so looking to either put him in nursery two days a week or child minder and I'm so torn what to do for the best. Has anyone else with an autistic toddler sent them to nursery? I have so much anxiety about what to do for the best for him.

Difficult isn't it when they are ND. Are there any SN nurseries near to you?

Hi @hol92I would definitely advice sending him to nursery, maybe start 3 days a week and see how it goes. My son is autistic and has been going to nursery since he was 1 year. He is now 4 and diagnosed with ASD. He still doesn't speak, just a few words, but he is very happy in his nursery. Nurseries are more aware of autism these days and they will help your little one to develop social skills. One last thing, if you need to apply for an EHCP in the future, nurseries help a lot with that as well.

Sorry by develop social skills, I mean being exposed to other kids. I think this has a positive effect on my son.
