Baby development 8 months

My LO was born in June 2024 and is almost 8 and a half months. I know everyone says that babies develop at different rates, but I can't help feeling like my little one is behind or something just isn't quite right.
He's never rolled and can sit independently for a few seconds but can't lift his hands off the floor without falling. He is bright and makes eye contact babbles and laughs, he loves songs and rhymes and is generally pretty happy. He loves musical instruments, but really struggles to hold rattles and shakers and drops them after a few seconds. He tries really hard and ends up crying during almost every play session because it seems like he can't do what he wants.

I don't know if this is within the realms of typical development or whether I should be concerned. Any reassurance, advice or tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

He does sound lovely but if you do feel that he's a little behind I would talk to your HV and ask them to assess him using the 8 months Ages & Stages.

It's perfectly normal for babies to score grey in a couple of areas, and if he does I'd expect the HV to make an appoint with you in a couple of months to check progress.

If he scores grey in more than 2 areas or black in any area I would ask for a referral to a Paediatrician and possibly Portage and Physio Flowers
